holy land

Our first technical summer dinnerrrrrrrr (taken with my snaps camera, re-blogged from RC)

First, the perps:

Next, the perqs:

Clockwise, from top left:
  • Israeli Coffee (finely-ground, slow-brewed over a "small flame", and made into a thick, spicy coffee through cardamom and other complex tastes!)
  • Malawach (a type of sweet fried bread that split softly into hundreds of thin layers of puff pastry; and a tomato sauce, which we speculate was made of tomatoes, olive oil, and pepper...)
  • Pita & Hot Grape Leaf sauce
  • Mystery specialty (proposed by the gruff, friendly proprietor that I've mentioned in a prior post. It is bread stuffed with ground meat, served in a subtle broth; he took us by siege and added this at the last minute!)
  • Combination Salad! (Clockwise from the beets: beets!, pickled cabbage, carrot salad, tabbouleh, Israeli salad, baba ganoush (oh so good!), and central - HUMMUS!)
  • Lamb Couscous (the main entree...for tomorrow's lunch. We were stuffed, like grape leaves!)

And mints. Needless to say, we were goners before we finished the baba ganoush of the combination salad. When friendly-gruff proprietor offered desserts, all we could do was clutch at our stomachs, throw our thumbs upwards, and whisper for to-go boxes. TY, IMa...we are going to have to do something about proportions. We have got some enormous eyes, and such tiny tiny billfolds. Still...I think I like this broadcast, very much so.

I dream of falafel and baklava; my head deep in my pillow, with billows like the soot at the bottom of our Israeli coffee drifting across my senses.
